Why yoga,
mindfulness & relaxation for school teachers?

Yoga and mindfulness techniques, practiced regularly, can have a profound influence on both managing and drastically reducing stress.
They have been found to help create greater resilience, enhancing one’s ability to stay centred in challenging situations; calming the central nervous system and promoting feelings of health and happiness.
Having more awareness of the body and mind brings about greater respect for self, for others and for all of life.

Relaxation is one of the keys to staying balanced. Teachers, in fact all us grown-ups, can be over-worked and constantly on the go with little time to let go and just be. Having unstructured time for relaxation is vital for good health. It enables us to be in the most optimal form for our selves and for those around us.

It is imperative that we model this way of being to children. In doing so we are giving them the skills to stay in healthy balance as they move through different phases of their development.

Professional Learning workshops for teachers aim to increase staff's awareness of their own personal health and well-being. School teachers will get to experience first hand many yoga and mindfulness techniques and shown how these practices, along with relaxation, can be incorporated into the classroom.

These workshops will open the way to work with children at a deeper levels. Tuning in energetically to them, we are able to create harmonious and effective learning environments supporting children to naturally reach their highest potential.

Professional Learning workshops for teachers

  1. Yoga, relaxation and meditation for teachers--an experience of yoga, relaxation and meditation for mind/body balance and personal health and well-being. Customised workshop at your school.
  2. Yoga, relaxation and meditation for children—learn how to integrate these practices, in alignment with Australian curriculum, into the classroom. See benefits of yoga Customised workshop at your school.

Programs for primary school children

  1. Yoga, mindfulness and meditation sessions (YMM)—aligning with the Australian curriculum, these sessions demonstrate to teachers how to put techniques into action and give children opportunities to taste the benefits of YMM. On-going weekly sessions over school term
  2. Reading of Deer-lightful by author--a reading of the children's yoga story Deer-lightful, followed by an experience of the yoga and a deep guided relaxation. 45 mins experiential session.
  3. As above with literature perspective--reading and experience of Deer-lightful with additional exploration of the writing and publication process. 80 mins experiential and practical session.
Teaching children how to relax and be at peace in an increasingly stressful world - I think it should be compulsory! Part of PE or something.
Parent, O'Connor Co-operative Early Childhood School

It was in the realm of peace and stillness (without feeling boredom) that the class needed development and I feel this was achieved beautifully with the yoga program. The effect has been long lasting and the class can now find peace and reverence at will as a whole group.... Thank you so much for the gift we received together.
