So....I’m Suzanna, a Dru Yoga teacher with a background in Early Childhood education.
I’ve had my fair share of challenges, like all people, but this is my short story so I’ll get straight to the crux of it. Many of my life experiences from an early age led me to that commonly held belief of “not being enough”. One of my motivations in the work I offer is to help shift some old paradigms that have led to these types of thought patterns. I want children to grow up believing in themselves, respecting one another as individuals, and for them to know they are perfect just as they are, no matter what their abilities/talents are, or aren't! We all have special gifts that make us unique.
The Yoga Garden programs meet this need, offering children tools and techniques that help them to connect to themselves, to others and to nature in a way that is authentically real. I founded the Yoga Garden in 2005 with an intention of helping parents and teachers lay a fertile foundation for the growth of the young children in their care. Together we plant yoga seeds, nurture them with mindfulness and tend to them in a way that gives kids a sense of who they are from a young age.
This ideal also motivated me to write the children’s book, Deer-lightful. It's a story which takes the reader on a journey seeking ultimate happiness, helping us to awaken to the truth of our divine essence. This traditional story has a powerful message that reminds children, and adults alike, that we have all that we need within to be who we want to be and to be truly happy. The story has been put to a Dru Yoga sequence, making it doubly powerful, and includes a guided relaxation at the end, a added bonus not to be under-estimated.
The Yoga Garden early childhood programs have grown, along with the children, over the years. Flourishing from the early seeds planted in fertile soil are now programs for primary school children - MaHa Classrooms. MaHa (Mind and Heart activated) Classrooms use the tools of mindfulness and heart based yoga practices to bring about balance for kids in this over-stimulated, technological age we’re living in. They also help children come to a place where they can realise the greatness of who they are, helping them to reach their fullest potential.
